I am a Retired builder and   Originally I designed these for a club we built in 1979, called the Ocean Deck , Daytona Beach . In 1993,i was asked to design and build a stool that would hold up , and There still going strong . Previously to that , with the beach crowd , many different kinds were lasting a year and 2 at most.

The trade magazines will all tell you that stools without backs will do 17% more alcohol volume.  In some instances it could determine whether your in the red or black.

In addition  your customers do appreciate a  nice padded seat.
